A.A.Leach P.E. Profile

Arthur A. Leach has approximately 400+ students. We are a middle years school in Pembina Trails School Division. We promote a program that is based on quality daily physical education. Our grades 7 – 9 have physical education 4 days out of a 6-day cycle which lasts 40 min each. Our grade nine students have physical education 5 days out of a 6-day cycle also lasting 40 mins.

The physical education program emphasizes the importance of fair play, respect, and cooperation, while encouraging everyone who is participating in our programs. We teach a wide comprehensive selection of skills and sports from your traditional of volleyball, and basketball, to games like team handball, lacrosse, cross country skiing, juggling and dance. Our grade 9 students also receive classes of weight training, first aid, and golf. Besides these activities, we also like to teach the students as many life long activities as we can, including bowling, billiards, rock climbing, curling etc.  There are many portions to the p.e. program that are written and students need to keep up with these also. The include: personal activity records, fitness and health journals and records.

One of our exciting outing for the school year is our annual ski trips. Our grade 7 - 9 student go for a 2 day ski trip to Asessippi in Russell Manitoba. The student have lunch hour meeting to understand the importance of school and their personal behaviour and academic standards for an outing such as this. Remember it is a priviledge and not a right to go on an outing like this.

Our extra curricular programs consist of x-country, volleyball, basketball, team handball, badminton, and track & field, which is the base for our grade 7 - 9 students. At the end of the year (June) we hold an athletic banquet. Each student who participates in an extra curricular activity is envited to it. All athletes are awarded with a certificate and ribbons to recognize their  achievement  and  time put in during the year. There is a sit down dinner and the leadership students put together an athletic video from the year. This includes grade levels from 7 - 9 athletics. We have  major awards that go out to our grade 9 students. All of these awards are based on former A.A. Leach students and we are delighted that they have allowed us to recognize our athletes in their names.
